Adopt Mel--He's Ready for His Forever Home
G'day! I'm Melbourne but my mates call me Mel and you can, too. I'm an Australian Cattle Dog (ACD) but some people know me as a heeler. I'm a descendent of a dingo, you know. I've been told I have the head of a red heeler and the body of a blue heeler. See more photos of me.

I've had a bit of a rough time. Somehow I ended up in the pokey (AKA BARC--the Houston city pound). I caught the eye of a nice person who knows a quality pedigree when she sees one. So she bailed me out. It's the smile--it works every time!

I didn't much care for the vets at BARC, so my new mum took me over to her vet. They gave me some good drugs, neutered me (whatever that is), and tested me for heartworms. Those nasty little worms had invaded me and that's just wrong. It was off to the vet again for heartworm treatment. Now that I've been fully treated, I'm good to go. I'll be able to live like any other dog. Just give me monthly heartworm preventative--the same thing all dogs need.

On the weekends we go on special dates to explore new and different things. We go for car rides, visit new places, meet new people, learn new skills. Last weekend, I learned about squirrels. This weekend, we went to the dog park and I really liked it.

My foster mum loves me very much, but would like to find me the perfect forever home. She said I'm a good listener and a lover. I'm around 2-3 years old and weigh a svelt 50 lbs. I'm neutered, vaccinated and even microchipped. Since I'm a people dog, I'd love to spend time with you. I like to go for walks, but I mostly like to be petted and admired.

If you'd like to know more about me, contact my mum.
