Looking for an intelligent, loyal companion? Then Mel is a match for you!
G'day! I'm Melbourne but my mates call me Mel and you can, too. I'm an Australian Cattle Dog (ACD) but some people know me as a heeler. I'm a descendent of a dingo, you know. I've been told I have the head of a red heeler and the body of a blue heeler. See more photos of me.

I've had a bit of a rough time. Somehow I ended up at the Houston city pound. I caught the eye of a volunteer who knows a quality pedigree when she sees one. So she bailed me out. It's my smile—it works every time!

If you know heelers, you know that we're quick learners. The trainer says I’m very eager to please. I know the basic commands (sit, stay, down, heel). I’m housebroken and crate trained.

This does not mean that I have high drive of a typical Australian Cattle dog. I'm fairly laid back and like to hang with my people. I'd love to spend time with you. I like to go for walks and I’m excellent on leash, but I'm just as happy sitting at your feet and being petted and admired. I’m also a big snuggler and would love to hang out with you and get belly rubs. I'd be fine being your one and only dog, but I get along with other dogs, too.

I had a pretty bad case of heartworms but my foster mum had me treated. Now I'm good to go! I'll be able to live like any other dog. Just give me monthly heartworm preventative—the same thing all dogs need. I’m also current on all of my vaccinations, I’m neutered and microchipped.

My foster mum loves me very much and would like to find the perfect forever home for me. She said I'm a good listener and a lover. I'm around 2-3 years old and weigh a svelte 50 lbs.

If you'd like to know more about me, contact my mum.
